Green hills, green building
 
  This building is located next to Zuoying High-speed Railway Station and it house more over 4,000 m², which Shin Kong Mitsukoshi department store has obtained the operation right. Across the site is a Banping Mountain, well-known as symbol of destruction of nature. It was excavated by a cement factory for raw materials many years ago. It fell to ruins with half of the hill is bare and no vegetation growth.
 
  We incorporated the image of Mountain Banping into the design. The ugly concrete back wall facade with staircases was built in as symbolic image of the destroyed Mountain Banping. Then steel mesh was covered over facade the and vegetation with irrigation system were cover of the facade. After a year the plants grow and covered the wall and turned the ugly wall into a green faced, which all visitor to Kaohsiung will see. A symbolic suggestion that we care about nature and green building.
 
  This project incorporates the Green Building concept when Taiwan began push green building legislature. It is hoped that through this façade, all passengers traveling through Zuoying Station will see the greenery, and remind the public of the green building concept and importance of environmental conservation. This technique was used repeated in many projects and so started a trend of green building concept. Ultimately this project was awarded the honor first prize in green building awards.
